Do you think about this question ? Have you set your Goals in Life ? These questions are not easy to answer and most people tend to shy away from it. But i implore you to give it a serious thought because if you don’t know where you are heading then how will you know if you’ve reached. To put some perspective into this, you might want to think about where you are NOW. Not in the physical sense but more in terms of life. Have you achieved what you aspired for ? Did you accomplish the goals you had set for yourself ? or are you on track towards accomplishing them ? If you haven’t given your life a serious thought i doubt you can answer these questions.
Remember, most people tend to focus on day to day life, living in the present trying to get to the other end of the day which is the perfect way to be stuck in a Ground Hog Situation. So, its important for you to be consciously aware of your ambitions and aspirations. You should define your goals and then constantly align yourself to what you set out to achieve.
How do you start ? A lot of intellects recommend to look at lives of other people who are successful at what you wish to achieve and use their journey as your roadmap.
Few steps that can help you get started on your Goals
- Write down the list of things you want to achieve
- Find people who have done it before
- Look at their journey, study it and learn from their experiences
- Look for patterns & behavior that you can replicate in your life
- Study and imbibe their decision making techniques
- If you can connect with them and make them your mentor, do that !!
One big hurdle in the process is to find the right person to follow. There is no formula for this but asking the following questions might help
- Is this person’s achievement similar to what i aspire for?
- Is this the kind of person i want to be?
- How similar is our storyline?
- From here on forward can i do what this person did to achieve my goals?
- Do our personalities resonate ?
As you answer these questions, listen for the small voice in your head to figure out the exact person / people you should be following.
This process of knowing where you want to be and then finding someone who has actually walked the path can be very helpful because it can act as a solid step towards achieving your goals. Use this techniques to get started and don’t forget to keep measuring your progress.
