“Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom” – Quote from Jawaharlal Nehru’s independence speech.

This idea of romancing with freedom began in 1929 when for the first time the demand for complete independence was made by our leaders. But did you know that even though we got our freedom in 1947, we didn’t have our own constitution in place till 1950. If like me you are also wondering so what rules were we following ? Brace.. We were using the rules laid down by colonial Government of India Act of 1935. The same rules we wanted to get rid off including the one that says ‘No rights to choose our leaders’.

WHAT!!!!  No power to choose our Leaders !  that was unacceptable for Bapu’s Indian national Congress and its signatories. So our big Guns got working immediately after independence and by 26th Jan 1950 , our Consitution was nailed by its principal achitect , Doctor Saheb and his team of experts.

P.S  I love the tag line for Dr. Saheb on his Wikipedia page – “1st minister of Law and Justice ” -#JawDrop #Awesomeness

We were finally  an independent Republic – ‘A government of the people, by the people, for the people’

#APPLAUD

In my humble opinion, freedom of choice is one of the most important and thats what we got on 26th Jan 1950 as a Nation. It took 20 odd years for this dream to become a reality but when we finally got there it was worth every moment spent to achieve it.

#RESPECT

Today, on this Republic day, appreciate this gift from our ancestors and reaffirm the pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. Let us continue this romance with destiny  #CelebrateDemocracy #Happy #RepublicDay#JaiHind
